Obituary: Donald P. “Moose” Crego, Sr., 62, of 8108 New Floyd Rd., Rome, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Rome Memorial Hospital following a long illness. He was born on July 2, 1946, in Rome, the son of G. David and Jacqueline Griffis Crego. He was a graduate of Rome Free Academy. On February 15, 1965, Moose was united in marriage to Karen Olmstead in Camroden.
Moose was employed by the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority for several years, retiring in 2000 due to disability. He was previously employed as a welder for the Pettibone Corporation.
Moose had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed to play jokes on others.
Surviving besides his loving wife of forty-four years, Karen; are two sons and daughters-in-law, Todd and Pam Crego, of Floyd, and Donald and Tammy Crego, Jr., of Barneveld; a brother and sister-in-law George D and Elaine Crego, of Rome; two special grandsons, Cody Crego and Ryan Crego; four sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Judy Welfel, Rita Brand, Barbara Hill, and Gina and Rodney Grogan; two very special neighbors, Cathy and Chuck Paige, and Sue Nessel and family; and several nieces and nephews. Moose was predeceased by a son, Shawn P. Crego, on September 10, 1993.
Moose’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Contronea and Dr. Talladini and their staffs and the Rome Memorial Hospital Staff and a special thanks to Wayne in the Emergency Department.
Services: Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial graveside service at Westernville Cemetery on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at 11:00 AM where the Rev. Arthur Miner will officiate. Contributions may be made in Moose’s memory to the Floyd Fire Department, 8367 Old Floyd Rd., Rome, NY 13440. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N.
