Obituary: Doris L. “Dee” Oliver, 95, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at Bethany Gardens with her loving family at her side. She was born on June 9, 1914, in Washburn, Wisconsin, the daughter of Frederick and Bertha Anderson Joanis. She attended schools in Washburn, Wisconsin. On July 25, 1936, Doris was united in marriage to Alan Oliver in St. Peter’s Church in Rome. Mr. Oliver passed away on March 23, 1969.
Mrs. Oliver was employed by the Rome DDSO for several years, retiring in 1974.
Doris was a member of St. Peter’s Church and was a Sr. Companion for CNYDSO.
Surviving are a daughter, Joyce “Peach” Perry and her companion, William Johnson, of Rome; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dick and Carol Oliver, of Lee Center, and Charles and Kathy Oliver, of Rome; fourteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was blessed to have a very special angel in her life, her granddaughter, Lori Race, who was her “faithful pal” and provided for her every need. Doris was predeceased by a daughter, Jane Reilly; and three sons, Timothy Oliver, George Oliver, and David Oliver.

Services: A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at St. Peter’s Church at 9:00 AM where the Rev. Philip A. Hearn will officiate. Interment will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Grandma Dee had a very special loving relationship with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they will miss her dearly.
