Obituary: Edmund “Ed” Pawlak, 83, of 1110 Delray Dr., Rome, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 29, 1925, in Fairpoint, OH, the son of John and Anna Klammer Pawlak. He attended Rome Schools. On June 5, 1948, he was united in marriage to Gloria Chrzan in St. Mary’s Church in New York Mills.
Ed was employed by Griffiss Air Force Base for thirty-nine years, retiring in 1982.
Mr. Pawlak proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church and a life member of the Rome Polish Home. Ed was an avid fisherman and gardener.
Surviving besides his loving wife of sixty years, Gloria; are a daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and John Newberry, of Anaheim, CA; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Edmund S. and Denise Pawlak, and Robert Pawlak, all of Rome; a sister, Josephine Pinti, of Rockville, CT; five grandchildren, Sarah, Tim, Heather, Edmund S. Jr., and Eric; three great-grandchildren, Alex, Hailey, and Faith; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ed was predeceased by a daughter, Joanna Broskay; brothers, John Pawlak, and Thadeus “Ted” Pawlak; and a sister, Anna Fitzgerald.
Services: Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, at 10:15am and a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul’s Church at 11am where the Rev. Robert Kelly will officiate. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
