Obituary: George “John” Nowicki, 88, of N. George St., Rome, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 2, 2010, at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born on May 11, 1921, in Lee Center, NY, the son of George and Katherine Rogola Nowicki. He attended Rome schools. On May 4, 1946, John was united in marriage to Frances Geslicki in Transfiguration Church in Rome.
John was a foreman for Revere Copper and Brass Products for forty-four years, retiring in 1983.
He proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.
John was a member of Transfiguration Church.
Surviving besides his loving wife of sixty-three years, Frances; are three cherished grandsons, Steven, Kevin, and Jason Nowicki, of Rome; two sisters, Nellie Brown, of Rome,Helen Tyler, of Lee Center; and a brother and sister-in-law, Walt and Margaret Nowicki, of Lowell; and a daughter-in-law, Jean Nowicki, of Rome;. John was predeceased by a son, Brian J. Nowicki, on February 18, 2006, two sisters, Sophie Bachman and Gladys Dutch; and two brothers, Alex Nowiski and Stanley Nowiski.
Services: Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, at 9:45am and a Mass of the Christian Burial at 10:30am at Transfiguration Church where the Rev. Lucian Urbaniak will officiate. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Contributions in John’s memory may be made to the Transfiguration Church Memorial Fund.
