Obituary for Guido E. Fanfarillo

Guido Fanfarillo, better known as Guy, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at the age of 88.
Guy is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carol Ann (Mudrich) and four of his children: Laurie Jean and husband Paul Britton, Ilion; Mark Alan Fanfarillo and wife Jessica (Nash), Rome; Brenda Sue Heintz, Clinton; Sallyann and husband Bruce Sloane, Whitesboro. He is also survived by two sisters: Laura Marchwinski, Rome and Jeanette DiSpirito, Oceanport, NJ. He has 7 grandchildren, 7 great- grandchildren, 1 niece and 5 nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Guy Edward Fanfarillo in 2012.
Guido was born on May 23, 1927 in Alatri, Italy and was the oldest child of Grazia (DelUomo) and Constantino Fanfarillo. They came to America when he was two years old.
After graduation from Rome Free Academy in 1945, Guy joined the Navy and was promoted to propeller specialist in the US Naval Air. Shortly after he was discharged, he became an independent agent for the C. Mark McLaughlin Insurance Agency. After 20 years there, he became a financial advisor, real estate broker and Vice President of Williams and Graves Insurance. Guy served the Rome community for more than 40 years before retiring!
In 1951, Guido married Barbara Moneta. They had three children during their 16 year marriage: Guy, Brenda and Sallyann.
After their marriage in 1973, Guido and Carol proved that a 20 year age difference was not detrimental to a beautiful life. Laurie and Mark are their children.
Over the years, Guy was involved in a variety of community organizations. He enjoyed and supported the Elks Lodge, Loyal Order of Moose, American Legion, 40 & 8, D.A.V., Volunteer Firemen's Benevolent, Fort Stanwix Hose Company, and V.F.W. He was especially proud of his role as a Jr. Chamber International Senator and Jaycees NYS National Director.
Guy's vision slowly deteriorated due to glaucoma. As long as he could, he enjoyed his number one passion...golf. He especially enjoyed playing the courses at Beaver Brook and Teugega Country Clubs.
Guy enjoyed many things throughout his life. Among his favorites were traveling, fishing, skiing, boating, rooting for the NY Giants, Super Bowl parties, watching “All in the Family” and “Mash” on TV, playing the accordion and his treasured ukulele, a good martini, connecting with friends via e-mail, the challenges of spider solitaire, homemade raviolis and angel hair pasta. He especially enjoyed his family and relaxing on his deck as he enjoyed the beautiful view of Lake Delta!
Family and friends are invited and may call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Wednesday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Church with the Rev. Robert Kelly officiating. Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Guy's memory to the Rome Elks Lodge #96, Jervis Public Library, or St. Joseph's Catholic Church Building Fund.
