Obituary:Harold J Zingerline, age 90, of Rome passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 20th, 2010 at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born February 9, 1920 in Rome and was the son of William and Estella Herrig Zingerline. Harold was a loving brother to predeceased Stephen (Beverly) Zingerline, Alfred (Ruth) Zingerline, Arlene (Clarence) Engelbert and William “June” Zingerline, Jr. Harold was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and the Rochester Institute of Technology class of 1942. He proudly served in the Unites State Army-Air Corp during World War II. On August 21st 1944, Harold was united in marriage to Mazie Kells in St John’s Lutheran Church. Employed by the Rome Developmental Center as the Head Maintenance Supervisor for twenty years until his retirement in 1982, previous to this, Harold also worked as a contractor with his brother, William “June” Zingerline. Post retirement, Harold and Mazie spent their time in Alexandria Bay, NY, Naples, FL and Rome. Harold was a devoted Christian and long time member of St John’s Lutheran Church. He also was a member of the Rome Elks Lodge, the Sherrill American Legion and a member of the Masonic Order of the Baron Steuben Lodge. Harold’s love for the outdoors and travel lives on through his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Mazie, one daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Robert Potter of Williamsville, NY and Naples, FL; one son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Bonnie Zingerline of Las Vegas, NV and Lake Placid, NY; four grandchildren, Kevin (Jennifer) Potter, Karen (Scott) Fischer, Craig (Maureen) Zingerline, Julie (Isaac) Greene; three great grandchildren, Paige and Avery Fischer and Damian Zingerline.
The family would like to offer our heartfelt gratitude to the staff, nurses and doctors of Bethany Gardens and Rome Memorial Hospital for their compassion and care they provided. The family would also like to extend our deepest thanks to his special nieces and nephews in Rome who have provided so much love and support to Harold and Mazie throughout the years.
Funeral services will be held on Friday April 23rd, at 10:30am at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Charles B. Hanna officiating. Interment Rome Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call Thursday 4pm to 7pm at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St, Rome. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jervis Ave Library Children’s section in memory of Harold Zingerline.
