Obituary for Jerrill D. Cuffee

Jerrill D. “Jerry” Cuffee, 92, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Bethany Gardens after a long illness. He was born September 14, 1922 near Richmond, VA, the son of Reverend Cadd and Etta Hines Cuffee. On September 1, 1984 he married Roslyn Rakowitz.
Jerry was an aircraft mechanic at Griffiss Air Force Base during World War II. He later became a self-employed TV repairman in Orange County, NY but his true love was music. He played the saxophone professionally all his life. While living in Rome, he formed the band Three Dudes and a Doll with his wife, Roz.
He is survived by loving wife of thirty-one years, Roz; five daughters, Yvonne (Gregory) Johnson of Virginia, Jerrilleine (Cullmon) Washington of Syracuse, NY, Yvette Jurman of New Windsor, NY, Elizabeth Martinez of Fairbanks, AK, and Christy (Ferdinando) Barrantes of Charlotte, NC; three sons, twins Leonard (Ellen) Hayden of Middletown, NY and Larry (Laurie) Hayden of Milford, PA, and Charles Cuffee of NYC; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a niece and a nephew. He was predeceased by a son, Jerrill Jr., and a brother, Harold W. Cuffee.
Jerry’s family would like to express the greatest gratitude to the staff at Bethany Gardens for the devotion and loving care they gave him.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 6:00pm at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St, Rome. Friends may call on Thursday prior to the service from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jerry’s memory may be made to the Bethany Gardens Activities Fund or the Rome Humane Society.
