Obituary: John Markin, 81, of 6578 Evans Road, Rome, New York, died Monday, April 28, 2008, in Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford.
He was born July 8, 1926, in Rome, the son of Michael and Josephine Federow Markin.
Mr. Markin was educated in Westmoreland Central School and the Excelsior School of Business, Utica.
On May 15, 1954, he married Arlene Abbuhl in Westernville.
John was employed by Oneida County Department of Public Works for seventeen years retiring in 1988 and previously was employed at Rome Cable Corporation.
He was a veteran of the United States Army Corp serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.
Mr. Markin was a charter member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Rome and served as an Elder and Deacon. John was also the church Treasurer for over thirty years.
Surviving besides his wife are one daughter, Susan Markin, Dracut, Massachusetts; one brother, Peter Markin, Rome; also surviving are his in-laws, Jean and Jim Wetherell, Chelmsford, Massachusetts; Donald Abbuhl, Durhamville; Howard and Georgia Abbuhl, Ava; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Bruce Markin.
