Obituary: Leah E. Bennett, 81, of Elm St., Rome, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at her daughter’s home in Oswego, with her loving family at her side. She was born on October 5, 1927, in Hudson Falls, NY, the daughter of John and Georgianna LaCross Etu. Leah was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School. On November 5, 1950, she was united in marriage to Lewis E. “Lew” Bennett in St. Paul’s Church, in Hudson Valley. Mr. Bennett passed away on August 7, 1990.
After raising her children, Leah went to work for the Rome City Treasurer’s Office for twenty years.
Mrs. Bennett was a member of St. Peter’s Church, in Rome.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Frank Lisk, with whom she resided, and Beth and Donald Flint, of Mansfield, MA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Betty Jean Bennett, of Middletown, CT, and Mark and Jane Bennett, Bozrah, CT; four grandchildren, David Flint, Matthew Flint, Madeline Bennett, and Katherine Bennett; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four sisters, Laura Adams, Madeline Kinary, Beatrice Etu, and Doris Carpenter.
Services: Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 4, 2009, at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, at 9:15 AM and a Mass of the Christian Burial at St. Peter’s Church at 10:00 AM where the Rev. Philip A. Hearn will officiate. Interment will take place in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hudson Falls, NY, on Tuesday, May 5, 2009. Family and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM.
