Obituary: Myrtle Marie (Mitzie) Prior passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2010 in St. Elizabeth Hospital after a short illness. She was born March 16, 1936 in Bakers Mills, NY, daughter of the late Clifford and Margaret Morehouse Denton.
On June 30, 1956, she married William E. Prior in Weavertown, NY.
She worked for many years at Eastern Star Nursing Home, Oriskany, NY along with BJ’s Wholesale Club in North Utica, NY and Orlando, FL.
Marie was a member of The Order of The Eastern Star #471, Oriskany Westmoreland Chapter and the Floyd and Stittville United Methodist Churches and volunteered at the Eastern Star Nursing Home, Oriskany, NY, and Give Kids The World in Kissimmee, Florida.
Mrs. Prior's family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude for the care and compassion of the staff at St. Elizabeth's Hospital.
Surviving her are her son William J. Prior of Floyd, NY; Daughter and Son-in-Law Tammy and Steve Abounader of Orlando, Florida; and Daughter and Son-in-Law Christine and Dean Tittus of Floyd, NY; seven grandchildren Stephen, Daniel and Alisa Abounader; Julie, Heather, Corbin, and Brooke Tittus; brothers and sisters Marjorie Harris of Tampa, Fl; Charles Tennyson of Chestertown, NY; Earl Tennyson of Cohoes, NY; Ann Diamond of Oklahoma City, OK; Gladys Leonard of Shreveport, LA; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband William E. Prior who passed away on July 30, 2002; four brothers George Denton, James Denton, Cecil Denton, and Clarence Tennyson; along with one sister Helen R. Coluccio.
Services: Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2pm at the Stittville United Methodist Church. Interment will take place in Rome Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Tuesday from 4-7pm. Contributions in Mrs. Prior's memory may be made to the Floyd or Stittville United Methodist Churches.
