Obituary: Ottilie McLiesh, 82, of 515 W. Court St., Rome, passed away on April 22, 2009, in Betsy Ross Nursing Home Rehabilitation Center. She was born on October 6, 1926, in Johanneskyrkan, East Germany, the daughter of Anton and Elizabeth Augenstein. She was a high school graduate. On April 14, 1953, she was united in marriage to Albert P. McLiesh, Sr., in Erdeng, Germany. Mr. McLiesh passed away on January 28, 2002.
Ottilie was employed by area restaurants, including Coalyard Charlie’s, Vesuvio’s, and Aquino’s.
Mrs. McLiesh was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Rome and was an avid shopper. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and vivacious personality.
Over the years, Ottilie was compared to Marilyn Monroe, whom she named her daughter after. She will be greatly missed by all and life will not be the same without her. We take comfort in knowing that she in a better place and take peace in knowing that she is with her husband and daughter taking care of each other.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Albert and Amy McLiesh, Jr., of Rome; a sister, Elizabeth Blank, of Germnay; and two grandsons, Patrick McLiesh, Jason Danielski; three great-grandchildren, Alexander, Trysten, and Darryen; a fifty-year friend, Paul Walrath, of Oneida; and several nieces and nephews. Ottilie was predeceased by a daughter, Marilyn P. McLiesh, on December 2, 2000.
Ottilie’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to Jenny Puma and family for the kindness and compassion shown to her.
Services: Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at 1:30 PM at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, where the Rev. Philip A. Hearn will officiate. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
