Obituary: Walter F. Pabis, Sr., 93, of Rome, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. He was born August 9, 1918, in Centerville, IA, the son of Joseph and Sallie Koziol Pabis. On June 2, 1945, he married Valeria Banasiewicz. She passed away December 5, 2004.
Walt owned and operated a dairy farm up until 1967. He later worked for several years at Oneida Limited.
Mr. Pabis was a member of All Saints Polish National Church. He was also a member of the Rome Polish Home and the Sconondoa-Sherrill #814 of the Masons.
He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Brenda Pabis, of Rome; three grandchildren and their spouses, Jeffery and Laurie Pabis, of Rome, Elaine and Scott Malorzo, of Rome, and Brian and Karin Pabis, of Canastota; seven great-grandchildren, Brad, Avery, Matthew, Nicolas, Mara, Taylor, and Katherine; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Walter Jr., and a brother, John.
Services: Funeral services will take place on Thursday at 9:30 AM at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, and 10:00 AM at All Saints Polish National Church. Interment will take place in All Saints Polish National Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7pm.
