Obituary:Wayne John McCormick, 74, member of the Greatest Generation, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2009 at his home in Southbury, CT. He was the husband of the former Agnes Iselo, his life partner and best friend of 54 years.

Mr. McCormick was born Oct 21, 1935, on the Peebles Farm in Oneida, NY, to John and Doris (Peebles) McCormick. He was a 1952 graduate of Rome Free Academy. He went on to attend Syracuse University until his entrance to the US Navy. As a first class Chief Petty officer, he was assigned to Joint Task Force Seven at Enewetak Atoll in the Marshall Islands during the testing of nuclear weapons, and because of this duty, he later became a passionate crusader for recognition of Atomic Veterans and the challenges they have endured as a result of exposure to radiation. Wayne continued this fight until the day of his death.

Mr. McCormick was involved in many municipal, civic, recreational and professional organizations throughout his life. He completed his degree as the top ranked student in his graduating class at Mohawk Valley. Wayne was an award winning student, Navel officer, executive, and father. He held positions as an advertising executive at Canterbury Press, Rome Wire & Cable, RCA and General Electric.

Mr. McCormick is survived by his wife, Agnes and his four children, David & his wife Betsy of Southbury, CT, Donna & her husband James of Oakville, CT, Daniel & his wife Chris of Woodbridge, VA, and daughter Darlene also of Southbury, CT.

Wayne was a huge fan of the NY Yankees and every team his 8 beloved grandchildren, Hayley, Allison, Matthew, Heather, Brianna, Danny, Sean, and Patrick were on. Information here was documented and compiled by his grandson and cribbage partner, Patrick, and Wayne would be very proud of that.


Services: Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, at 9am. Interment will take place in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7pm.
