Robert M. “Bob” Gibbs, 77, of State Highway 12, North Norwich, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 11, 2015. He was born in Norwich on April 18, 1938 a son of the late Henry and Marion Whitmore Gibbs and graduated from Sherburne High School. On October 15, 1960 in Sherburne he was united in marriage to the former Charline Borst. A lifelong area resident Bob owned and operated BOB’S USED CARS in N. Norwich from 1967 until his retirement in 2005. The business still continues to operate by his son. Bob loved stock-car racing and was a race car driver himself. He was a member of the Old Timers Stock Car Club and in 2004 he was inducted to the Old Timers Stock Car Hall of Fame. He was member of the N. Norwich Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife Charline; his daughter and son in law, Bobbie and Thomas Grover of Sherburne; two sons and daughters in law, Mitch and Dawn Gibbs of N. Norwich; Jim and Renee Gibbs of Havertown, PA; a brother and sister in law, Claire and Joan Gibbs of Oxford; his grandchildren, Heather and Gary Miller of Sherburne; Linsey Grover and Mike Barone of N. Norwich; Danielle Gibbs of Sherburne and Brett Tonkin of Carbondale, PA; Michael Grover and Kirsten Page of Sherburne; Todd Gibbs of N. Norwich; Joe Gibbs of Havertown, PA; great grandchildren, Chesnee, Layne, Griffin, Hadlee and several nieces and nephews and his loving dog “Molli”. He was predeceased by a sister Evelyn Whaley. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 2:45 PM at the N. Norwich Cemetery. Friends are invited and may call on Tuesday afternoon prior to the graveside, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home 10 S. Main St, Sherburne, NY
