George E. DeWald, of Springville, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital at the age of 87. He was born June 21, 1930 in Buffalo, NY - a son to the late George C. and Agnes C. (Brown) DeWald. He was a graduate of Kensington High School and received an Associate's Degree in Business from Bryant & Stratton College. He served in the U.S. Navy, was stationed in Hawaii, assigned to the USS Bexar, and was honorably discharged after serving in the Korean War. George is survived by his children: Diane (Bruce) Bookhagen; Kim (Paul) Fisher; George W. (Joyce); Michael (the late Linda); Mary (Robert) Mayerat; Daniel (Geneva); Alberta (Michael) Sulik; a sister: Shirley (the late William) Shelley; also survived by 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 60 years: Carol (Gohr) DeWald, who he married January 3, 1953. Friends may call Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home- 271 E. Main St., Springville.
