New Lebanon - Dorothy Crego Sanford of New Lebanon, died peacefully at her home on November 14, 2017 at the age of 101. Dorothy was born in New Lebanon on October 6, 1916 to the late Harry and Caroline (Weavers) Crego. She graduated from New Lebanon Central School and received her Teaching Certificate from State University of New York at Oneonta in 1932. Dorothy was an elementary school teacher for more than 30 years in Rock City Falls and New Lebanon. She retired from teaching at New Lebanon Central School in 1976. In her family, she was known as the Queen of Yahtzee with a high score of 601 points. She would spend countless hours playing Yahtzee and Rummy, almost always coming out the winner. More so, she was the woman everyone could count on. She was always the shoulder to lean on, the ear to listen and the voice of reason. God has certainly gained an angel in Dorothy and she will be truly missed. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles A. Sanford, Son-in-law, George E. Kipp, Jr. and Grandson, H. Stewart Robertson (surviving, Marcie). She is survived by two daughters, Barbara S. Robertson-Freeman (Jay) and Patricia A. Kipp, two grandchildren, George E. Kipp III (Ruby) and Melissa M. Coon (Travis), six great-grandchildren, Taylor, Alexander, Riley, Caroline, George and Rosella. She was also survived by several wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 4 until 7 PM at the Hall and Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY-43, Stephentown, NY. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the New Lebanon Congregational Church.
