Ballston Spa – Dr. Stephen Stanley Andrukiewicz died on August 15, 2017 at his home with his wife Mary Ann, and his niece Shannon at his side.
Stephen was born on April 11, 1944 at Camp Stoneman, California, to Mary (Atwater) and Stanley Andrukiewicz. After WWII was over they returned to Stephentown, where Steve grew up. After high school he attended the University of Mississippi where he earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and his PhD. He then started teaching at SUNY Adirondack (ACC) in 1968 and retired after 49 years in 2017. Steve loved teaching and was a natural at it. He enjoyed telling stories of his days at Ole Miss and his life experiences which were woven into lessons in his specialties; Criminology, Juvenile Delinquency, Sociology and Population. He was always excited on the first day of school throughout his entire career.
Outside of work, Steve’s passion was hunting, especially duck hunting, and he spent many days hunting with his father and brother around Stephentown. He spent each summer getting ready for the Fall hunting season with his buddies Tom, Joe, Randy, Bob, Evan, and his brother, Bill. His favorite place to be was in his blind with his black lab, Rudy, waiting for the first flight of ducks at sunrise. Steve loved nature and enjoyed taking pictures and memorializing each season with an album. Steve loved to cook his famous spaghetti sauce, spare ribs, scallops, Veal Blanquette, and Chicken Queen Elizabeth.
Steve also loved sports, and he was a die-hard NY Mets and NY Giants fan. He also enjoyed college football and attending Ole Miss games with his wife. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He could captivate an audience with all kinds of stories from his full life. This translated directly to his style of education that his students loved.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann (Rambish), his brother, Bill Andrukiewicz, and his nieces, Shannon Rambish LaBue, and Brittany Rambish King.
A funeral service will be held Friday, August 18 at 6 PM at the Hall and Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY-43, Stephentown. Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 4 until 6 PM.
