Sister Mary Ronan Creedon, CSJ, 89, died Tuesday, June 17, at St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham. She had been a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for the past 69 years.
Sister Mary Ronan, the former Eileen Bridget Creedon, was born in Little Falls, NY, on October 15, 1924, daughter of the late Michael and Mary Waldron Creedon. After graduating from St. Mary’s High School, Little Falls, she worked as a clerk for Cherry Burrell Corporation, one of Little Falls’ major employers at the time. Sister Mary Ronan entered the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Joseph on August 15, 1945, and professed final vows on August 15, 1950. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in education, both from The College of Saint Rose. For nearly 30 years, Sister Mary Ronan taught elementary grades in schools in Utica, Albany, Binghamton, Syracuse, Little Falls, Saratoga and Johnson City. After her teaching career, Sister Mary Ronan worked as a parish minister, cook and sacristan and also became a certified home-health aide, serving in health care at St. Joseph’s Provincial House for over 15 years.
Sister Mary Ronan was a faithful, compassionate woman whose life was marked by unspoken services and acts of love, a woman whose generosity knew no bounds. In her various ministries, Sister Mary Ronan was willing and ready with an attentive ear, a word of encouragement and a promise of prayers. She had a deep love for her family and her religious community and a profound respect for the beauty of God’s creation. Sister Mary Ronan leaves us a lasting legacy of a spirit of gratitude and an appreciation of the simple gifts life has to offer.
Sister Mary Ronan is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families; and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Theodore and Edmund Creedon; one sister, Rita (Al) Kreinberg; and by many friends in the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Sister Mary Ronan’s funeral Liturgy will be held on Monday, June 23, 10:30 a.m. from the chapel of St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham. Interment will be in Our Lady Queen of Virgins Cemetery on the Provincial House grounds. Calling hours will be held at the Provincial House on Sunday, June 22 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Contributions in Sister Mary Ronan’s memory may be made to the Development Office of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 385 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110.
