The Honorable Vincent Lamb

WATERVLIET – The Honorable Vincent A. Lamb, 88, attorney and long-time City Court Judge for the City of Watervliet, passed peacefully into eternal life on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at his home. Born in Troy on January 25, 1928, Mr. Lamb was the son of the late Vincent G. and Rebecca A. (Brett) Lamb. He was a life-long resident of Watervliet. Mr. Lamb was a graduate of the former St. Brigid’s School in Watervliet, Vincentian Institute in Albany, Siena College in Loudonville and Albany Law School in Albany. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served his country honorably in both World War II (August of 1945 – January 1949) and the Korean War (February 1951 – June 1952). Mr. Lamb was a practicing attorney in the general practice of law for more than 50 years and as such appeared and practiced law in Justice Courts, Town Courts, City Courts, County Courts, Supreme Court, Family Court, Surrogate’s Courts and the Federal District Court for the Northern District of New York. Judge Lamb was appointed Acting City Court Judge of Watervliet by Mayor James F. Cavanaugh, Sr. on March 27, 1973 and served in that capacity until his election as the City Court Judge in November 1987 commencing January 1, 1988, in which capacity he served two terms until his mandatory retirement on January 1, 1998. Mr. Lamb had served as attorney for the Watervliet Urban Renewal Agency and was a member of the Rensselaer County Bar Association, Albany County Bar Association, Thomas B. Flynn Post of the American Legion in Watervliet and the Watervliet City Post #729 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a communicant of the former St. Brigid’s Church in Watevliet where he also served as trustee, lector, usher and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was currently a communicant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Watervliet. He was the much loved husband, for 62 years, of the late Elizabeth L. “Betty” (Lebentritt) Lamb who died on March 17, 2014. He was the loving father of Mary Beth Monteleon (Thomas), Honorable Thomas E. Lamb (Pamela), Ann R. Lamb, Joseph M. Lamb and infant son Vincent who was born on July 3, 1954 and died on April 6, 1957. He is further survived by four cherished grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Donald L. Rutherford on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 10 o’clock AM in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 25th Street and 7th Avenue, Watervliet. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Friends are invited and may visit with Mr. Lamb’s family on Friday from 4 until 7 PM at the Cummings Funeral Home, 643 Third Avenue, Watervliet. For those who wish to remember Vincent A.
