WATERVLIET – Adam J. Walion, Sr., 90, died peacefully Monday, January 15, 2018 at his home in Watervliet surrounded by his loving family. Born in Maplewood on March 7, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Catherine Chipock Walion. Adam was a graduate of Maplewood School and a 1945 graduate of Watervliet High School. Following graduation, Adam enlisted in the US Army during World War II and served in Germany. Upon returning home, Adam was employed by Niagara Mohawk Power Co. in both Troy and Albany for over 40 years serving as a lineman and cable splicer before retiring in 1988. He was a communicant of St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church in Maplewood. Adam was a member of the Maplewood American Legion Post #1615 and was also a member of the Watervliet VFW and the Watervliet Lodge of Elks. He was a charter member of the Watervliet Dad’s Club and a member of the 25 Year Club for Niagara Mohawk. He enjoyed maintaining his vegetable garden at his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Doris Clifford Walion who died in 2016; proud father of Adam J. (Eileen) Walion, Jr. of Watervliet, Kevin G. “Quincy” Walion of Caroga Lake, Christopher M. (Pamela) Walion of East Greenbush and Lisa A. (late Patrick) McGee of Watervliet; grandfather of Craig (Brittina) Walion, Reghan (Eric) Phillips, Amanda (Jim) Sheflin, Travis Walion, Caitlin (Mike) Dorgan, Keira, Shannon and Kelly Walion; great grandfather of Quenton, Parker and Olivia Walion, Brady and Chasen Phillips and Callie Dorgan; brother of the late Catherine Walion and stepbrother of William and Nicholas Walion and Pauline Osborne. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A funeral service for family and close friends will be held on Thursday at 10 am at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet with Rev. Peter Olsen officiating. Interment will follow in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the service on Thursday from 9-10 am for family and close friends.
