Obituary

Virginia Farinas McNally Whitehead died peacefully on July 5, 2012 at the age of 98. She was born on February 22, 1914 in Birmingham, Alabama, third child of Judge Richard Powell McNally and Ellen Farinas McNally. Virginia was reared and educated in Birmingham.

After marrying Edward Jenkins Whitehead, Virginia moved to Riverside Drive in Manhattan and then to North Street in White Plains in the mid-1950s. While Ned was an account executive at McCann Erickson, Virginia held secretarial positions at various companies. She concluded her career in the mid-l980s as office manager at Robert A. Hill Inc. at the Gift Building in Manhattan.

A true lady and a Southern belle from her manicured fingertips to her tiny toes, Virginia was a longtime member of Westchester Hills Golf Club. She, Ned, and Jere and Alice Whitehead (Ned’s brother and sister-in-law) were a familiar foursome at the club. Virginia loved the Mets, golf, bridge and University of Alabama football. She was devoted to her family and Roman Catholic faith.

Virginia was also a parishioner at Our Lady of Sorrows in White Plains and was one of the original “Rosary Ladies” at daily 9 o’clock Mass.

The last McNally of her generation, Virginia was the cherished sister-in-law of Syd Silverman and the beloved aunt of Marie Silverman Marich, Michael, Mark, and Matthew Silverman, Catherine McNally Rafuse, James McNally, and many great nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her siblings—Catherine McNally Holland, Berry Farinas McNally, Jan McNally Silverman—her husband, Edward Jenkins Whitehead, sister-in-law, Betty Whitehead, brother and sister-in-law, Jeremiah Horton Whitehead and Alice Jones Whitehead.

Her family would like to thank and acknowledge the staff and volunteers and caregivers at Sarah Neuman Center and Jansen Hospice for their kindness and dedication to our beloved Aunt Gee.
