John E. D'Anna Yonkers, New York Obituary

John E. D'Anna

In the words of John E. D’Anna; “I am dead; you’re not and that is why you are reading this." On September 23, 2018 Yonkers lost a legend and institution who was proud that he lived his life a Yonkers resident. John was born on September 7, 1944 to two really great parents; Sylvester and Catherine D’Anna who were living on New Main St here in Yonkers. He graduated from Saunders High School where he was a standout athlete and went into the family business and became a partner in the S. D’Anna and Son Delicatessen where he became known for his sausage and sandwiches. On September 12, 1965 he was married to the love of his life Joanne Capobianco at St. Anne’s RC church, sadly Joanne predeceased him earlier this year on February 4. John was the father to two wonderful daughters, Jennifer (Kevin) Boyce of Yonkers and Jill (Steve) Bugnacki of Oxford, PA. and the loving grandfather to Emma and Gavin & Henry. John leaves behind his beloved niece Suzanne (Lenny) DiPanfilo and cousin Sal (Maureen) Bellino as well as a very extended family and many cherished lifelong friends. There will be a celebration of John’s life at Flynn’s Funeral Home on Central Ave. on Thursday September 27 from 4pm to 8pm, internment will be held privately at the family’s request. The family asks in lieu of flowers to donate to the Yonkers Force High School Football Team. Donations can be sent to Dan DeMatteo care of Gorton Football Parents Association 100 Shonnard Pace, Yonkers NY 10703. John wanted to let you know that he did not want a funeral, so next time you have a drink in your hand, tip it up or tip it down; he does not care, just remember one thing; just keep on smiling!
