John Pellom

John Lawrence Pellom, 89, of Black Mountain passed away Monday, September 25, 2017. Mr. Pellom was born May 4, 1928 in DeKalb County, GA to the late John and Julian Pellom. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Black Mountain where he served as a greeter. John was a merchant in Black Mountain for 68 years, working in his father’s watch shop starting in 1949 making and repairing watches. He was a member of the Black Mountain Masonic Lodge and the Junior Order. John loved Black mountain and the people that were not only his friends, but those that visited. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth “Betty” Leagon Pellom and sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Ross Taylor. He is survived by his daughter, Kaye Laws and husband, Bill of Swannanoa; grandchildren, Matthew Thomas (Emily), Katie Hutchins (Michael) and Patrick Laws (Beth) and great grandchildren, Carson, Abby and Carter. The family will receive friends Friday, September 29, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Harwood Home for Funerals. Private Services will be held at a later date. Flowers are accepted and appreciated.
