Ashley Shaw Obituary

Ashley Diane Shaw Ashley Diane Shaw was granted her angel wings on June 7, 2014, following a long, brave, difficult battle with osteosarcoma. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Ashley had influenced in so many ways throughout her short, yet very memorable life. Ashley greatly impacted and brought light to all throughout her community and family in the 15 years she was on Earth. Ashley’s kindness, helpfulness, spunk, and astounding courage was an inspiration to everyone who met her. She never treated anyone as a stranger and always saw the good in people. Her generosity and spirit affected all those who came in contact with her…..she was a true ambassador of goodwill. Although Ashley’s illness ravaged her physical being, she possessed strength, perseverance, and an ability to overcome incredible odds. With her courage, she showed us that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. She never lacked an opportunity to flash her amazing smile or share her contagious laugh. Ashley was always trying to figure out ways to get the entire family together, whether it would be through annual trips to Hunting Camp in Slate Run, PA or the beach at OBX each July 4th. Her greatest joys were spending time with friends and family, and giving back to the community. With Ashley’s passing we remind ourselves that her life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss her with each day, especially her bright smile, she will remain in our hearts forever. Ashley leaves behind many wonderful caregivers that provided love and support that helped her through the hard times of her illness. Ashley’s love extends to her wonderful doctors, nurses, Child Life, and Arts for Life Specialists at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. There is a special place in our hearts for Ashley’s best friend, Diana who was her BFFJSTEPBRBRBROSHHHTTR. She will be dearly missed by countless other friends, teachers, neighbors, and members of the community to whom Ashley had come to know and love. Ashley is survived by her loving Mom, Anne Phillips Shaw of Brevard, NC; devoted brother Andrew Shaw of Brevard, NC; paternal grandparents Ron and Jeanne Wharton of Monroe Township, NJ; maternal grandmother Mimi Phillips of Hershey, PA; and 28 Aunts, 23 Uncles, and 36 cousins whom she loved dearly and who meant the world to her. She was predeceased by her father Jeffrey Shaw of Camp Hill, PA, paternal grandfather Howard Shaw of Mahaffey, PA, and maternal grandfather Henry Phillips of York, PA. A visitation will be held at Moody- Connolly Funeral Home Thursday, June 19, 2014 from6pm to 8pm. There will be a memorial service June 20, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Brevard.
