Betty Bynum Esping Betty Bynum Esping, 85, of Sunset, SC and Sapphire, NC, died on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Transylvania Regional Hospital. Betty, born in Stonefort, IL, was the daughter of the late Francis Marion and Mabel Murphy Bynum. Betty attended the Church at Sapphire. She was an avid reader her entire life, an accomplished bridge player, and loved gardening. Betty would often say that some of the happiest times of her life were spent in the North Carolina mountains, where she had lived since 2000. Prior to moving to Sapphire, Betty lived on Hilton Head Island, SC, where she was well known for her bridge playing, her cooking, and her love of the Atlantic Ocean. Betty is survived by her husband of 64 years, Edward Donald Esping; her daughter, Maryanne Esping Mooney and husband Gary Michael Mooney of Atlanta, GA; her sons Edward Kevin Esping and wife Susan of Tulsa, OK, and Jeffrey Shawn Esping and wife Jennifer of Lawrenceville, GA; her brother, Jay Bynum of Springfield, MO; and 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Theodore James Esping whose widow, Marcia, lives in Carmel, IN. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Church at Sapphire with Rev. Dr. Oliver Skerrett and Rev. Jackie Hensley officiating. The church is located on Highway 281 just south of Highway 64 in Sapphire, NC. There will be a reception at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Broyhill Children’s Home in Clyde, NC.
