Charles Morgan Obituary

Mr. Charles Monroe Morgan of Brevard passed away Monday, October 18, 2010 after a period of declining health. A native of Transylvania County, Mr. Morgan was born on March 23, 1932. He was preceded in death by his parents, Haskell Monroe Morgan and Moira Jones Morgan and his sister, Jenny M. Hamilton. He is survived by his three children that will remember his ever present strength and self-reliance as being the guiding force of their family life. The eldest, Ronnie Monroe Morgan resides in Penrose with his wife, Sandy. Charles' daughter, Debbie Lee Morgan makes her home in Pasco, Washington. His youngest son, Russell Gene Morgan resides in Hendersonville. Charles was very proud of his two granddaughters, often pointing out their pictures to his visitors and remarking that they were, "Goooood Girls." The eldest, Amber Shay Morgan of West Virginia made him proud by presenting him with his three great- grandchildren. His youngest granddaughter, Joanna Leigh Morgan of Penrose, was devoted to him and during his illness listened to many hours of bluegrass music at his side, just because it made him happy'. As the only son of the family, Charles felt a responsibility to watch out for his sisters; even during his own declining health, he continued to ask about their health and well- being. Each of them held a very special place in his heart and he enjoyed reminiscing about good times that they had. His sisters Florence Meece and Nannie Green both reside in Pisgah Forest. His sister, Mary Pangle and her husband, Alton, make their home in Rosman. His sister Dorothy Cobb resides in Alpharetta, Georgia. Charles also had a number of nieces and nephews that he appreciated very much. Mr. Morgan served as a Corporal in the Army during the Korean War. Upon returning to Transylvania County after the war, he began to further develop his carpentry skills, eventually forming Charles M. Morgan, Co. Mr. Morgan's company built several hundred homes in the community as well as developed property into sub-divisions, including Morgan Heights, Millbrook Estates, Still Meadows and Little River Ranch. When he was asked which was the most beautiful home of all those that he had built, Charles always chose as his favorite, South Fork on Elm Bend Road. Charles enjoyed picking and singing gospel music as well as old time bluegrass and for many years he and his group, The Gospel Mountaineers, presented a Sunday afternoon radio show on Brevard's local radio station. After his retirement, Charles became a regular at local breakfast restaurants enjoying the fellowship of the early morning coffee drinking crowd and catching up with old friends and business associates. His family appreciates his many good friends that maintained contact with Charles during his illness. Your visits brightened his days and comforted him during a difficult time. He valued your friendships very much. Charles' children would like to thank all those that have shown him and the family support and care during the decline of his health. In particular, the staff of Tore’s Home and Four Seasons Hospice who helped make his last days peaceful and comfortable. Their kindness was very much appreciated. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, October 20, 2010 in the Chapel of Moody-Connolly Funeral Home with the Rev. Lloyd Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah Gardens with military graveside rites conducted the Honor Guard for Transylvania County Veterans. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
