Cleamon Carroll Owen Balsam Grove – Cleamon Carroll Owen, of 578 Tanasee Gap Rd., went home to be with the Lord after a brief illness on Monday, August 5, 2013. He was born on February 16, 1940 and was a native of Transylvania County. Cleamon served his country in the Army Reserve. He retired from IBM after more than 30 years of service and moved back home to Balsam Grove where he became active in his Church and Community Club. He served as a Deacon of Shoal Creek Baptist Church and as an officer in the Balsam Grove Community Club. His parents, Ralph M. and Alma G. Owen, one niece, Elizabeth Owen, and his mother and father-in-law, Beulah and Ingomar McCall of Balsam Grove preceded him in death. He leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, Doris McCall Owen; four brothers, Gurlie Owen and wife Nancy of Brevard, Herbert Owen and wife Dorothy, Keith Owen and wife Sharon, and Kenneth Owen and wife Lori all of Balsam Grove; four sisters, Oberia Porter and husband Carroll of Lilburn, GA, Bernice Powell and husband Jerry, and Louise Koontz both of Balsam Grove, Diane Lewis and husband Don of Wake Forest; brother-in-law, Rev. Dan McCall and wife Clara of Balsam Grove; a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; one great great niece; one God Daughter, Melissa Abernathy of Atlanta; a host of special friends, and wonderful church and community club families. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Shoal Creek Baptist Church where he was a member and proud to be an ordained Deacon. Rev. Buster McCall and Rev. Shaun Dodson will officiate. Burial will be in Wood’s Cemetery on Tanasee Gap Rd. Immediately following the service at the cemetery all friends and family are invited to join the family for a meal at the Balsam Grove Community Center. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home.
