David Richard Betz 75, of Brevard passed away November 30, 2013. He was born January 1, 1938 in Mecklenburg County to the late Edward P. Betz and Lucille Branson Betz. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Michael P. Betz. He was a member of Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder and he was a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. Mr. Betz was a former life member of the Brevard Elks Lodge #1768 and was a current life member of the Hendersonville Elks Lodge #1616. He is survived by his wife Marilyn T. Betz, one son; Chris Betz of Blacksburg VA, one daughter; Carla Betz Allen and her husband Jim of Morganton, two sisters; Carolyn Tice and her husband Jim of Alexandra VA and Judith Bronfman of New York City, and five grandchildren, Emma, Eli, Addie, Glen, and Jay. A memorial service with military honors will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian conducted by Rev. Keith Thompson and the Honor Guard for Veterans of Transylvania County. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
