Evelyn "Gibby" Chappell Gibson Evelyn Irene Gibson passed away peacefully on February 19, 2018 at the John F. Keever Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, NC. She was 86 years old. Evelyn was born in Brevard, NC on December 1, 1931 to Lenus and Callie Chappell. She was older sister and friend to her two sisters, Mildred and Delores. Evelyn raised 2 children, Don and Sandy, as a single mother. She went to nursing school and on to have a 30 year career as a nurse at Transylvania Community Hospital. She worked as a labor and delivery nurse for many years and helped deliver many babies in Brevard. She also worked in skilled nursing and later finished her career on the medical/surgical unit. She had two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren whom she adored. She spent a lot of time with her "great grandbabies" and often said "I thought grandchildren were special but great grandchildren are even better." She was a friend to everyone. She was a kind and wonderful lady and a true blessing to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Emerlyn Orr; nephew, Bobby Orr; niece, Lori Dodson; and son-in-law Dennis McCall. She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Whitmire (Gary); son, Don Gibson (Lisa); granddaughter, Sonya McKelvey (Thad); grandson, Brian McCall (Jamie); sister, Delores Dodson (Ross); very special nieces, Scotta Orr and Lisa McDaris (Jeff); nephew, James Dodson (Adrienne); great grandchildren: Elizabeth, Madison, Walker and Jacob McKelvey and Amelia and Brianna McCall; and many great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 1:00pm - 2:30pm at Pisgah Forest Baptist Church, Pisgah Forest, NC followed by a memorial service at 3pm. Dr. David Spray to officiate the service.
