Geraldine Shelton Whitmire Obituary

Geraldine Shelton Whitmire age 88 of Brevard, NC went home to be with our Lord Monday, December 30, 2019, surrounded by family and friends. She was the daughter of the late Wilburn and Gertrude Shelton of Rosman. She was preceded in death by the love of her life Charles Arthur Whitmire, three sons Leonard Delmire, Toby, Bobbie Keith, one great granddaughter Michele “Gracie” Weaver, four brothers Tinsley Shelton, Leonard Shelton, Robert Shelton, and Coy Shelton, and two sisters Otha Cook, and Frankie Helen Shelton. We can only imagine the great reunion that was awaiting our mom in Heaven seeing Christ our Savior and her loved ones there. She leaves behind four daughters Glenda Thompson, Virgina Honeycutt (husband Stanley), Pamela Galloway (husband Jerry), Laury Pressley (husband Rev. Michael), two sons Art Whitmire (wife Angela), and Stacy Whitmire (wife Karla), and one sister Mary Dee Bruner (husband Rev. Bill). God blessed her with fourteen grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She had numerous nieces and nephews she adored. Our hearts are saddened, but we rejoice that we will meet again. Geraldine was a faithful member of the Rosman Church of God where she loved the fellowship especially if she was sitting with her dear friend Clara Morgan. She loved the preaching, teaching Sunday school and music. She testified that she felt like God was better to her than anyone else but knew God loves everyone the same. She said “It just feels like he is so good to me.” She didn’t know a stranger but loved to fellowship with everyone giving words of encouragement. She loved the outdoors, cooking, sewing, gardening and singing. Her favorite activity was loafing with her best friends the late Lessie Brown and Dorene Chapman. Our mother loved God and wanted her children to know Jesus loved them. With every child she had the first word she whispered in our ears was Jesus. She made sure we knew we had three brothers in Heaven and encourage us to hold love for them always. She was a prayer warrior and instilled in us the importance of having faith in God. What else can be said about our Godly mother but that we will miss her dearly. We are so happy she is now healed and is with dad, our brothers, and singing around the throne with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In my mother’s bible she wrote,” I thank God for every stripe He took for my healing,” this was followed by Psalms 30: 2,3 “O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive!” She ended her writing at this point. She is healed! The funeral service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Rosman Church of God. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Online condolences may be left at www.moodyconnollyfuneralhome.com
