Helen Reynolds Obituary

Helen Reynolds, 88 years young, of Spartanburg, S.C., passed peacefully from this life January 12, 2015, following a short struggle with double pneumonia. Since November 2014 she had been a resident at Shannondale Retirement Community's Skilled Care Center in Maryville, Tennessee, and considered Monte Vista Baptist Church of Maryville her church home. She was born in Pisgah Forest, N.C., on March 4, 1926, to Buford and Florence Mulenex, both of whom have predeceased her. She attended Brevard High School, and before that Davidson River Elementary School, when she wasn't playing hooky! Helen worked hard in a variety of jobs during her lifetime. She recently told of her first job ironing starched shirts for $0.13 cents an hour as a teenager. She retired at the age of 81 from Woven Electronics, Simpsonville, SC, after a 26 year career there. As a Quality Assurance Specialist she worked on several military projects including the trigger cable for the Hell-Fire Missile used during the Kuwaiti War. She always looked forward to monthly lunches with her Woven retiree friends. Though she worked hard to care for her family, she had one frivolous activity: bowling on the Woven League. Her trip to Alaska was the highlight of her traveling. She had no desire to go anywhere else unless she could drive there. She had four children whom she loved dearly. Eldest daughter Bonnie (husband TR Rich) Robertson predeceased her in death in 2013. Surviving are Sarah Ann (husband David) Wilson of Maryville, TN, formerly of Midland, MI, John Wayne Reynolds of Simpsonville, SC, and Brenda Joyce Reynolds of Piedmont, SC. Of her six grandchildren, she had a special place in her heart for the two who lived with her at different times in their lives: Christopher Brady and Morgan Reynolds. She is also survived by cousin Deborah (husband Patrick) Grace of High Point, NC. Helen loved her as a daughter and looked forward to their many Canasta games. She got great joy in sneaking off to High point without telling anyone. Her funeral service will be held at Fernwood Baptist Church, 200 Fernwood Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307, 864-582-7467, on Friday evening January 16 at 7 p.m. following visitation at 6 p.m. Graveside service will be held Saturday, January 17 at 11 a.m. at Davidson River Cemetery, Pisgah Forest, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Davidson River Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 91, Pisgah Forest, NC 28768, to Global Women, P.O. Box 1535, Pelham, AL 35124, , or to Volunteers for China, 709 Verdant Lane, Maryville, TN. Helen was a supporter of each of these non-profit organizations.
