James Edwin Hawkins

James Edwin “Jim” Hawkins, age 83 of Brevard, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021 Mr. Hawkins was born on July 25, 1937 in Transylvania Co., NC to the late James Lamar Hawkins and Kathleen Poor Hawkins. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his twin brother, John Herbert Hawkins, and brothers Thomas Avery Hawkins, Terry Glen Hawkins and mother and father in law Ammie Gray “Pat” Harbin and Karl Thomas Harbin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a former Exalted Ruler of the Brevard Elks Lodge, a member of Dunn’s Rock Masonic Lodge, a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church. Jim owned and operated Cardinal Cleaners, various other local businesses through out the years and was a real estate broker. Mr. Hawkins loved playing golf, and flying airplanes. He had been a volunteer fireman for the Brevard Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Linda Harbin Hawkins; one son, Ed Hawkins and wife Wanda of Greer, SC; one granddaughter, Karlee Hawkins Ware and husband Tyler of Suffolk, VA; one great grandchild, Phoenix Avery Hawkins. On his behalf, , the family would like to thank Connie McNeese for assisting in Jim's care A graveside service will be held at 3 PM Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. Military honors will be conducted by the Transylvania County Honor Guard. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society in the name of James Edwin Hawkins.
