John Rider

John Lewis Rider Brevard – John Lewis Rider, 76, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late Robert and Etta Eubanks Rider. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Polly Rider, son, Jasper Cornett, and brother, Charles Rider. He was a member of Cedar Mountain Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and as senior men’s Sunday school teacher. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp and was retired from E. I. DuPont. Surviving are his wife, Dicie R. Rider; daughter, Carol Martin and husband Jerome, of Brevard; sons, Johnny Rider and wife Traci, of Charlotte; Mike Cornett and wife Debbie, Tony Cornett and wife Vickie, Troy Cornett and wife Debbie, and Dennis Cornett and wife Tracey all of Brevard; daughter-in-law, Helen Cornett, of Quebec; sisters, Kathleen Morgan, of Monroe, Mich. and Mary Elizabeth Wiggins of Mills River; brothers, Harold Rider, of Liberty, SC, and Bert Rider and wife Brenda, of Brevard; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild. The funeral service will be held at 11 am Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Cooke and Rev. Dr. Harlon G. Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory with military honors conducted by The Honor Guard for Veterans of Transylvania County. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Cedar Mountain Baptist Church, P. O. Box 367, Cedar Mountain, NC 28718.
