Joseph Elmo Crowe , age 77, of Rosman went home to be with the Lord on Saturday July 2, 2011. He was born August 12, 1933 in Transylvania County to the late Robert Loran Crowe and Beulah Powell Crowe. He was a charter member and deacon of the Rosman Baptist Tabernacle, a United States Army Veteran. He retired from Ecusta Paper Corporation after 45 years of service. He worked part time at several florists in the area. He thoroughly enjoyed creating fresh and silk floral arrangements for several churches in the county and did many arrangements for weddings and funerals. He became an avid daylily gardener many years ago and created what is known as Hillside Gardens. Throughout the years many people came from all over to visit him and his garden and would have various daylily clubs visit during the season. He never met a stranger. He got to know each and every person that ever visited his garden and absolutely loved everyone.
He was involved with the G. W. Whitmire Cemetery in Rosman and organized and became the first president of the Eastatoe Community Center.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Gerene “June” Galloway Crowe, one son Myron Joseph Crowe and wife Sherri Morgan Crowe of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by brothers, Howard Crowe and wife Judy Butler Crowe, Lynell Crowe and wife Pat Whitmire Crowe, and Lynn Crowe all of Rosman and a sister Shirley Crowe Nicholson and her husband Claude of Brevard and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday July 5, 2011 at Pisgah Gardens at 2:00 PM with Rev. Chester Owenby, the Rev. Chester Chappell, and the Rev. Tommy Owen.
