Jovina Kazmer

Jovina Kazmer, age 86, of Brevard, North Carolina died on December 23, 2013 at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Jovina Theodorette Schmitz, born in Carroll County, Iowa on June 3, 1927 to Henry Schmitz and Julia Tillman Schmitz, moved to Zion, Illinois when she was 8 years old. On May 3, 1947 she married Henry Kazmer in Wadsworth, Illinois. Henry preceded her in death in 2012. She is survived by 4 children, Vince (Lois) Kazmer of Hudson, Ohio, Karen Kazmer (David Walsh) of Vancouver, British Columbia, Steve Kazmer (Jill) of Wadsworth, Illinois, and David Kazmer of Hendersonville, and niece Karla Moras of Merion , Pennsylvania. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren. Brad (Karen) Kazmer of Atlanta, Amanda (John) Kerins of Chatham, New Jersey, Amy Walsh of Vancouver, Rosie Walsh of Vancouver, Greg Kazmer of San Diego, and Kevin Kazmer of Wadsworth and 5 great grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, and Julia Kazmer of Atlanta, and Ella and Austin Kerins of Chatham, New Jersey, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jovina graduated from Holy Child High School in 1944 and after raising her children worked for many years in administration at the College of Lake County. During that time she completed her Bachelor's degree at Governors State University. She was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Wadsworth and St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Waukegan for many years and recently attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brevard. In 1993, Jo and Hank left the Waukegan area to retire in Hendersonville. North Carolina where they made many new friends and especially enjoyed the camaraderie of their fellow golfers at Glenn Cannon Country Club. In addition to husband Henry, Jovina was preceded in death by brothers Vern, Henry, and Frank Schmitz and sisters Dorothy Fletcher and Sister Julienne, sister-in-law Virginia Moras and granddaughter Emily Kazmer. Funeral service will be on January 10th at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brevard followed by private interment at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice.
