Larry Thomas Obituary

Larry Norman Thomas, age 79 of Quebec, passed away quietly in his sleep at his home, Neal Thomas Place on June 10, 2019. Larry was the eighth child born to the late Larry O’Neal and Norma Chappell Thomas inside the current Gorges State Park. He went peacefully to join lost loved ones at the end of a decade-long battle with Alzheimers/mixed dementia. In addition to his parents, those include his beloved siblings, Arthur Thomas(Ruby), Josie Thomas Snipes(Russell), Lloyd Thomas(Lorraine, Bonnie, JoAnn), Pearline Thomas McCall(James), Norma Jean Thomas and James Melvin Thomas, his wife of 18 years and “Momma” to all his children, Jessie Owen Thomas. Larry was a hardworking, devoted family man who spent his teenage years picking fruit in Florida before moving to Greenville, SC where he helped weld the frame for the Daniel Building. Later Larry began a career of maintenance positions including the Singer Sewing Machine Plant, American Thread Company and MB Industries from which he retired. Larry was baptized near the shore of Lake Toxaway by his lifelong friend and pastor, the late Jack Plemons. He continued to enjoy hiking, gardening, beekeeping and fishing for as long as he was able and was a life member of the Moose Lodge #1769 in Brevard where he served as Secretary/Treasurer and became devoted to Moose Charities. Survivors include his children, Beth Thomas Chapman (Tom) of Brevard, Larry Bert Thomas (Cindy) of Rosman and Felecia Thomas McCall of Neal Thomas Place, siblings, Frances Thomas Cody (Bill), Pauline Thomas Armstrong(Bob), Bobby Thomas(Phyllis), Hilda Thomas Barton(Doug) and Cecil Thomas(Dottie). Larry was a proud “papaw” to Justin Powell, Shaina Thomas, Dennis McCall, Jr., Autumn Hayes, Kendra Thomas, Derek Chapman and Storm McCall as well as many of their friends and 11 great grandchildren who were Larry’s greatest joy. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and friends and a treasured, lifelong friend, Rainy Long of Brevard. The family would like to thank superstar healthcare staff members Jaime Roy-PA, Lisa Galloway-RN and the entire staff of the Lake Toxaway Health Center and from Care Partners, Tammy Ball-RN and awesome physical therapist, Angie. The family also thanks the Transylvania ER staff and EMT’s who went above and beyond to assist in Larry’s care, all the members of the Transylvania Sherriff’s Office and Rescue Squad who assisted on the night of his passing. Felecia McCall would like to extend her love and appreciation to Jack Branson whose support and devotion enabled Larry to live out his life at his home as he so desired. In addition, Felecia McCall would like to thank Jessie Thomas. Though divorced for many years, she supported Larry’s journey any way she could until her death. Above all, Felecia McCall would like to thank Larry Norman Thomas and God for few will ever know a man like Daddy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Moose Haven for the Elderly c/o, Moose Charities, 155 S. International Drive, Mooseheart, IL 60539 or online at www.moosecharities.org. A celebration of life service will be held 630pm, Saturday, July 13, 2019 at the Quebec Community Center.
