Brevard – Leona Carter Owen, 82, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, February 1, 2016 at the Oaks of Brevard. Born in Walhalla, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lawson C. and Etta Shook Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, A. B. Carter. Left to cherish her memory is the love of her life and husband of 64 years, Charles Hurshel Owen who loving cared for her to the end of her journey on earth; two loving daughters, Phyllis O. Robinson and husband Michael of Canton and Teresa O. DeVore and husband James of Mount Holly, NC She traveled and sang with her daughters as the Owen Trio sharing her love of music and Jesus Christ throughout the southeast. She loved doting on her six grandchildren Monica Robinson, Marisa Robinson, Jeremy DeVore, Maurice Robinson, Bennie Robinson, Daniel DeVore and eight great grandchildren. She is survived by six sisters, Ada Eades, Beth Greenwood, Georgia Holden, Linda Carter, Gladys Tracy and JoAnn Terry and a brother, Gerald Carter. Her greatest legacy is the example of the love she showed to her family, her church and God. Proverbs 31:10, “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is above rubies.” A Celebration of Life will be held 2pm, Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Open Arms Tabernacle (Church of God), McClean Road, Brevard, NC The family will receive friends from 12:30pm – 2pm. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. A reception will follow the burial in Open Arms Tabernacle fellowship hall.
