LuRae Henderson Obituary

LuRae Jensen Henderson, 81, of Etowah, NC, previously of Everglades City and Naples Florida, passed away on November 21, 2019 after a short struggle with leukemia. Lu’s husband of 54 years, Milton Henderson preceded her in death. She leaves a large loving family. Her grieving daughters and sons are Debbi, Wendy, Scott & Dixie and her step-children: Koni and Thomas. She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Tiffany, Michelle, Amanda, Austin, John, Devin, Taylor, Neil Jr., Kimberly, Clark and Kamille; including the husbands, wives and beautiful great-grandchildren of her extended family. Lu is also survived by her loving sister and brother, DeLene and Lon. Lu was born and raised in Salt Lake City, UT. At 27 years old, she packed everything she owned into a camper along with her 4 kids, cat and a dog and drove all the way to Everglades City! Milt soon followed and they set about starting over and finally purchasing the Everglades Supermarket. The whole family worked to make the supermarket a success. It taught all of us the meaning of hard work and customer service which has served us well for many more years to come. In 2005, Lu and Milt finally realized their dream of retiring in western North Carolina, buying their “Little Piece of Heaven” in Etowah. They loved their neighbors and enjoyed the area. Lu enjoyed walking her dog, Cody in all the beautiful parks in Hendersonville, Etowah and Brevard. “How Sweet it is to be Loved by You” was Lu and Milt’s favorite song and a testament to the way they lived. Lu loved her family and loved her animals! Everywhere she went, her dog would go too…. Always! Lu asked to be cremated and for her ashes to be comingled with those of her true love, Milt, then spread together into the Gulf by Naples Florida. Her family will celebrate their lives with a sunset memorial in February 2020. Online condolences may be left at www.moodyconnollyfuneralhome.com Moody-Connolly Life Celebrations, 181 S.
