Luther Hooper Norton, 91, of Pisgah Forest, passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019.

He was the son of the late Lemuel and Violet Mae Hooper Norton of Cullowhee. His loving wife of 65 years, Lucy Evatt Norton, preceded him in death, as did his parents, brothers, and sisters, including twin brother Dennis, who had also been a longtime resident of Pisgah Forest.

He dearly loved his family, his church, and his mountains. He fished, hunted, and hiked in the forest throughout his life. He was a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Turkey Creek Baptist Church, and went on mission trips to Togo and Brazil. He shared his faith and love of the outdoors with his family. He worked for many years at Ecusta/Olin in Pisgah Forest.

Surviving are daughter Teresa Yarns and husband Bob Yarns of Ellijay, GA; son Dr. Douglas Norton and wife Katy Friggle-Norton of Havertown, PA; grandchildren Hannah Norton and husband Thor Blevins of Gainesville, FL, Jacob Norton and wife Caitlin Norton of Springfield, PA, and Dr. Brandon Yarns of Los Angeles, CA; and great-grandson Henry Norton of Springfield, PA.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2019, at Turkey Creek, with Rev. Shannon Owen officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
