Mary Jane Jones Howard, age 92, of Cedar Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 7, 2019. May Jane was born on September 24, 1926 in Cedar Mountain to the late Paul Kendall Jones and Rhoda Heath Jones. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ralph Eugene Howard who died in 2008, and a sister, Hazel Jones. She had been employed as a beautician and a florist in Atlanta, and she cooked and traveled with the owners of NFL teams Atlanta Falcons and Dallas Cowboys. She also worked for Plantation Services in Boston, GA. Mary Jane was active in the garden club in Decatur, GA and was known for her beautiful dahlias which she shared with others and with Rocky Hill Baptist Church every Sunday. She was known for her love of feeding the community and her specialties were caramel cake, cinnamon rolls and artichoke relish. She also cooked the Wednesday night suppers for Rocky Hill Baptist Church and she loved going on car rides. Mary Jane had a children’s book written about her by Christine Pace called “Mary Jane Has A Visitor”. (Black Bear eating her baked goods.) Special thanks to her grandson, Kendall, for making it possible to remain in her home for the past several years and special thanks also to all at Cedar Mountain House and Care Partners Hospice who made her last two weeks comfortable. Survivors include one daughter, Martha H. Stankey and husband Chuck; one son, Paul Howard and wife Sandy; two brothers, Solomon “Buddy” Jones and wife Ruth, and Bobby Jones and wife Lucy; two grandsons, Thomas Kendall Howard and Chadwick Thomas Etters; two great grandchildren, Austin Etters and Kristin Etters. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Rocky Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rocky Hill Baptist Church.
