Mattie Hamlin Whitmire

Mattie Hamlin Whitmire, 91, of Pisgah Forest, peacefully passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020. Mattie was the daughter of the late Cleophus and Ethel Hamlin. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Ruel, and her six siblings. Survivors include a son, Ruel Keith, of Fletcher; a daughter, Janet (David) Robinson of Bell Buckle, TN; granddaughters Karen (Forrest) Chapman of Schwenksville, PA, and Kathy (Kirk) Shull of Springville, UT; and ten great grandchildren, Joel, Lana, Sarah, Andrew, Magdalena, Hannah, David, Maryanna, Susanna, and Timothy. She was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church where she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She especially enjoyed teaching children the Word of God. Mattie will be remembered for her love for the Lord Jesus Christ and her family, and compassion towards all who knew her. After many years of service, she retired as a secretary from the Transylvania Baptist Association. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and cooking for family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at Turkey Creek Baptist Church on Friday, May 22, at 2:00 PM followed by a graveside service at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. Family will receive friends at the church from 1:00-2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Children's Ministry Department at Turkey Creek Baptist Church.
