Mildred Louise Powell Dodson, age 77, of (Powell Town) Rosman, NC went home to be
with her LORD JESUS CHRIST on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at her home surrounded by family.
Born on March 30, 1936 in Rosman (Powell Town), Transylvania County, NC she was
the daughter of the late Clarence (CO) and Nettie W. Powell. In addition to her parents,
she was preceded by her brother, Pvt. Haskell D. Powell. She is survived by her loving
husband of 60 years, Mr. Fred Dodson. She is also survived by one brother, Mr. Herbert
(Hub) Powell and wife Kathi of Rosman, NC; three sons, Michael Dodson and wife
Mary Ann of Westminster, SC, Terry Dodson and wife Alice of Rosman, NC and Rev.
Eddie Dodson and wife Diane of Rosman, NC; six grandchildren, Jonathan Dodson and
wife Selina of Rosman, NC, Melissa Dodson Moody and husband Scott of Horsehoe,
NC, August Dodson Hall and husband Dennis of Balsam Grove, NC, Jamie Dodson and
wife Kelly of Rosman, NC, Sarah Dodson Williams and husband James of Easley, SC
and Tessa Dodson of Rosman, NC.; ten great grandchildren, Paghten and Nathan
Moody, Hunter, Heidi and Hayden Hall, Zach, Isaiah and Grant Dodson, and Ashlyn and
Matthew Dodson; three nieces, Amber Powell, Tiffany Powell and Summer Heatherly, 7
great nieces and 4 great great nieces.
Mrs. Dodson had many accomplishments which includes receiving her GED from AB
Tech in 1968, her Associates Degree at Brevard Junior College, Bachelor of Arts from
WCU in 1974, Masters in Learning Disabilities from WCU in 1978, Educational
Specialist Degree (Ed.S) from WCU in 1981 and Dr. of Philosophy from Baptist College
of America in 2012. She was an educator for Transylvania County Schools for 21 years
and named Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 1996. After retirement, she taught
many subjects at Blue Ridge Community College during which time 419 students
acquired their GED's under her guidance. She also taught at Schenck Job Corps for five
years, teaching a total of 43 years.
Mrs. Dodson was saved at the age of 12 on October 6, 1948 and has lovingly served her
LORD JESUS since. She was a devoted member of East Fork Baptist Church where she taught
Sunday School for over 50 years and served on many committees.
Mrs. Dodson was an inspiration to all and her presence will be dearly missed. She
enjoyed family gatherings, bowling, traveling (49 states and all the Providences of
Canada) and spending time in her flower gardens.
The funeral service will be held at 4 PM Thursday, April 25, 2013 at East Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Tankersley, Rev. Gene King, and Rev. Eddie Dodson officiating. Burial will be in Powell Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:30 – 8:30 PM Wednesday at East Fork Baptist Church.
