Oren Matthews

Brevard – “Welcome Home my Good and Faithful Servant”. Oren Eugene “Fat Cat” Matthews, II, 70, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 23, 2016. A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late Oren Eugene Matthews, Sr. and Ruby Whitmire Matthews. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his cousins, Danny Allender and Sue Green. Mr. Matthews was a rock to his wife of 54 years, Patsy Chapman Matthews. He was her best of all friends, forever chauffeur, thrift store buddy, restaurant companion, a great provider and most of all, a Christian husband who she loved with all her heart, sharing a beautiful life together. She is glad and honored to have been his wife. “See you on down the road – our love forever." He was a wonderful father to his son, Shannon, teaching him many things that will live on forever. Surviving in addition to his wife and son are two sisters-in-law, Freda McKelvey and Freida Chapman; nieces, Ronette Dill, Ranessa Thomas and Ranille McCall; nephews, Thad McKelvey and Milon Chapman. The funeral service will be held at 3 PM Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Faith Baptist Church, Lake Toxaway, NC with Rev. Kyle Reese, Rev. Wayne Owen, and Rev. Hank Moffitt officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity.
