Robert Corn

Pisgah Forest – Robert “R. L.” Corn, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, April 11, 2011 at his residence. A native of Henderson County, he was the son of the late Theodore Mack Corn and Dora Lee Owens Corn. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Garland, Sherman and Dewey Corn. Mr. Corn was a member of the Rosman Church of God. A veteran of the U. S. Army, he served with an Anti Aircraft battalion during WW II where he earned the American Theater Campaign Medal, the EAMET Campaign Medal with 6 Bronze Service Stars, and the Victory Medal. He loved his Lord and his church, and he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. Surviving are his wife, Bessie Pressley Corn; daughters, Sandra Sheppard and husband Jimmy of Pisgah Forest, Shirley Owen of Brevard, Sheila Byrd and husband Kenny of Brevard; son, Robbie Corn of Pisgah Forest; sisters, Lavada Lashley and Maxine Stanley both of See Off, Gayle Corn and Gail Ridings of South Carolina; brothers, Larry Corn of See Off, and Douglas and Jeff Corn both of Cedar Mtn; grandchildren, Shane Owen, Will Byrd, Charis Owen, Jennifer Sheppard, Jasmyn Denton, Anna Travieso, and Brittany Byrd; great-grandchildren, Colby Hogsed, McKinsey Sizemore, and Presley Conley; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, April 14, 2011 in the chapel of Moody-Connolly Funeral Home with the Revs. Mike Pressley, Carl Overton, Dale Pressley, and Troy Stamey officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah Gardens with military graveside rites conducted by the Honor Guard for Transylvania County Veterans. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 pm Wednesday at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home.
