Ronald Mahlum

Ronald Eric Mahlum, Technical Sergeant (TSgt) USAF, Retired Ronald Eric (Ron) Mahlum, 50, passed away late Saturday night, June 6th, at his home near Rosman. Ron was born at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska, on June 9, 1964, to the late Donald Mahlum and Carolyn Mahlum of Brevard. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Linda Huffman. Ron graduated from Mount Vernon High School in Fairfax County, Virginia in 1982. In 1985 he enlisted in the USAF and served 20 years as an aircraft mechanic, working as crew chief on the F-15 Eagle. He was stationed at Langley AFB VA, Elmendorf AFB AK, and Seymour-Johnson AFB NC. Several temporary overseas assignments included the countries of Kuwait, Japan, Korea and Hudson’s Bay Canada, and US assignments at Nellis AFB NV, Eglin AFB FL and Tyndall AFB FL. Upon retiring from the USAF in 2005, Ron and his family settled in Brevard. He worked for Dove Air at Asheville Airport then later for Higher Source Aviation Services out of Greenville, SC. Ron’s hobbies included bowling, golf, motorcycle riding and sports with his favorite football teams being the Washington Redskins and the Greenbay Packers. In addition to his mother he leaves behind his wife Nancy Bryson Mahlum, son Casey and daughter Annika, all of Brevard; a sister Kathy Duncan of Brevard; and three nephews, Joey Duncan of Yorktown, VA; Craig Duncan of San Antonio, TX; and Jason Huffman of Alexandria, VA. Graveside services will be held 2:30 pm, Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1pm until 2pm at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home. The Patriot Guard will provide motorcycle escort to the cemetery followed by military graveside rites conducted by Transylvania County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Ron’s honor to the Disabled Veterans, the Wounded Warrior Project or your favorite charity.
