Sherrell Jackson Cofer Brevard, North Carolina Obituary

Sherrell Jackson Cofer

Sherrell Jackson Cofer, known and loved as Jack Cofer, was born in Cullman, Alabama on October 15,1933 and died on October 8, 2019, one week before his 86th birthday. He is survived by the wife of his youth, Verna Mae, their son Mickey, daughter-in-law Trina, four grandchildren and their spouses, Judah, Jonah, Jesse, and Jaazaniah, and four great grandchildren, Jude, Jenesis, Jeneva, and Javan. He was proceeded in death by his precious girls, Debbie and Sandy and grand daughter Cynthia, his father Dave, beloved mother Vollie, and seven tight knit brothers and sisters, Ray, Jonnybelle, Patsy, Loyce, Joyce, Byron, and Ronald. He often reminisced about his childhood days surrounding the Great Depression when he and his siblings picked cotton to survive. He quit high school and joined the military and was stationed in Greenville, South Carolina where he met and married Verna Tabor on September 24, 1957. After 20 years of faithful service to his country, he retired a Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force and moved to Brevard, North Carolina where he owned and operated Cofer’s Used Cars until his 80th birthday. He was most loved for his good natured, silly personality, strong work ethic, and extreme generosity toward his family and many friends. Early in their marriage, Verna received Jesus Christ as her Savior and began praying for her husband. For sixty years, she, their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with hundreds of believers from around the world have prayed for Jack Cofer’s salvation. Despite the countless opportunities he had to hear the gospel, he chose to reject the Lord Jesus who died for our sins, was buried and rose again to give eternal life to those who put their trust in Him. The family circle has so sadly been broken and He will be forever missed. The Memorial service will be held at Fellowship Baptist Tabernacle 411 Glade Creek Road, Pisgah Forest, NC 28768 on Saturday, October 26 at 11:00am followed by a meal in the fellowship hall.
