Climaxing a period of challenging health, which was borne with patience, and matched with bravery of his unshakeable faith in God, the mortal life of Othelia( Bishop O.T. Johnson slipped into a peaceful transition on Tuesday Evening, February 5, 2019 at his home in Fayetteville, North Carolina with his wife, children and caregivers by his side. Bishop Othelia(O.T. Johnson) renowned for the name “The Faith Preacher” was born to Elihue (Ed) and Jessie Johnson on May 26, 1938 in Robeson County and reared in the town of Rex, North Carolina. He was the last surviving child of five children. Bishop attended Rex Elementary, Oakridge High School and graduated from FTCC in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He married his childhood sweetheart, the love of his life, Annie Marie McCall. He loved her so much he married her three times, in a Tom Thumb wedding in the third grade, March 17, 1957, and again on their 25th Silver Wedding Anniversary . To this union four children, Rosa, Dwight, Randall and Carolyn. Bishop was a hard worker and taught his children extraordinary work ethics , a great provider and faithful loving husband. Earlier in his career he worked at The Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Fayetteville and help mix the first Mountain Dew Drink. He advanced in the work place and became the first African American to be a route salesman and paved the way for both his sons who later in life became route salesman at Pepsi Cola. Bishop has always been an entrepreneur, owning his own Janitorial Service, Dump Truck Business, Insurance Agency, winning numerous prizes and trips to London, France, Paris Bermuda just to name a few for being the Top Salesman. He was very competitive and enjoyed winning! He did not like to lose! One of his famous sayings ‘Losing Is Not An Option”. He went into the Used Car Business J&E Auto Sales with his friend and business partner Purdie Elliott. He later owned the family business Pop’s Auto Sales where his children worked along with him and had a very prosperous business, and were able to give others employment opportunities. Early in life he accepted Christ and became a member of Holy Temple Bible Church of God under the leadership of the late Apostle R.L. Garner where he served as a faithful, dedicate, committed Head Deacon , Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent and Armour- Bearer. He loved his Pastor and made sure he was well taken care of. In the 70’s Bishop was diagnosed with a deteriorated lung and given a death sentence of 90m days to 6 months to live. He began to read Oral Roberts book “The Miracle of Seed Faith” If you have FAITH as a seed, no matter how small it seems-- It will meet needs and problems that Appear Impossible !! He caught faith trusted and believe God’s word and God gave him a new lung! He began teaching and preaching faith that cause people to shut the door on poverty and walk into prosperity! He would preach and people would be delivered and set free, bodies were healed people began to accomplish things they only dreamed of. He taught that faith was the way for a born again believer and without it, it was impossible to please God. His daughter Carol named him “The Faith Preacher” He founded Deliverance Temple Free For All in Hope Mills, North Carolina on Old Parkton Road. He was one of the first African Americans to purchased property on Raeford Rd, where he relocated the church and changed the name to Deliverance Temple Word of Faith Christian Center. The ministry really excelled . People was coming from far and near, he had to expand to two services on Sundays 8 A,M, and 11 A.M. It was standing room only! He was an anointed preaching and leader. He held a high standard for the ministry it was his life!! A great visionary was he! His last accomplishment and vision was to build a new sanctuary debt free. He was a sower he led by example. You are sitting in the vision today, Deliverance Temple Word of Faith Christian Center at Faith Village a” Debt Free” sanctuary. Preceded him in death was his parents, Elihue & Jessie Johnson, four siblings, Billy, James ”Peter”Pan(Annie Louise) Johnson, Barbara Jean Graham( Ervin) and Bertha Mae Gray( Hue Lester), Mother-in-law Mother Marie Haskins,Two Children, Carolyn Denise Wilson and Dwight “Pop” Johnson. Those who are grateful to share many treasured memories and his legacy are: his loving and dedicated wife of 61 years Pastor Annie Johnson, daughter, Rosa “Lady G” Faison (Pastor Anthony), Fayetteville, North Carolina, Son Elder Randall J. Johnson Assistant Pastor DTCC ( Stephanie), Fayetteville, North Carolina, son-in-law Donald Wilson, Daughter-in-law Marilyn Johnson, twelve grandchildren, forty eight great grandchildren, nine great -great grandchildren a host of nieces, nephews, adopted children, god children, cousins, other relatives and friends. Thank you to special caregivers Danarius Jacob, P.J.Smith, Malik Smith, who was there to help Pastor Annie Johnson care for Bishop in the home, Hospice 3HC staff, special CNA, Monica Underwood, Lisa at Crossings at Wayside and staff at Fox Hollow, Pinehurst, North Carolina.
