Carol Anne Reeves, a lifelong resident of Longview, died and went to heaven to be with Jesus on March 19, 2019. She was 84. She was born Nov. 23, 1934, to Ancel and Catherine (Pannell) Cutright. Mrs. Reeves and her late husband Bill were active in Southern Baptist churches in the Longview area. They helped to start three churches: 20th Avenue Baptist Church (now Highlands Baptist Church), Cowlitz Way Baptist Church in Kelso and Robert Gray Baptist Church. She was a quiet leader and a gentle servant, working with both youth and children’s ministries. She served on the church council at Robert Gray Baptist Church and was the church treasurer and//or clerk for about 50 years. She provided transportation to many people who wanted to attend services. If the church had an event or service, she was there to offer her time, energy, finances and prayer. Although Mrs. Reeves stayed home with her children for several years, she worked at the Employment Security Department in Kelso assisting the unemployed as operations manager for 30 years, before retiring in 1991. When people had difficulty meeting their basic needs, she consistently found ways to help people find jobs, homes and other services. She was known to buy meals, provide a place to stay, help to find appropriate interview-ready clothing and was a model of integrity and hard work. Her staff at times referred to her as the “mom” of the office. Mrs. Reeves enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, sudoku, reading and quilting. She was an awesome cook and loved to have big family dinners with everyone coming. Family reunions were a highlight of each summer and she enjoyed reading her Bible every night. Mrs. Reeves was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Linda Dowdle, formerly of Franklin, N.C. She is survived by two brothers, Ed Cutright of Kelso and Guy “Butch” Bohannon (Geri) of Citrus Heights, Calif.; two sisters, Shirley Braun of Kelso and LaFon Warden (Ray) of Anderson Island, Wash.; a daughter, Janie (Reeves) Ray (Harlan) of Sandpoint, Idaho; two sons, Donald Reeves (Carol) of Corvallis, Ore., and Steve Reeves (Debbie) of Franklin, N.C.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces and friends. The family is grateful to the staffs of the Canterbury Inn and Community Health & Hospice, the Peace Health Dialysis team, and especially, Dr. Albert Luh, for their excellent care of Mrs. Reeves. She was grateful to have people who were caring and gentle. A viewing will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park. A graveside service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at Longview Memorial Park, followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m. at Robert Gray Baptist Church, 2448 46th Ave., in Longview.
