Evelyn Dean Hughes

Evelyn Dean Hughes, 86, of Franklin, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020. Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Willard L. Dean and Josephine R. Rogers Dean. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Hughes. Evelyn was an active member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and served on the cemetery committee. She was also very active with the Class of 1953 reunion committee. She is survived by her daughter, June Huggins Angel and husband Doug of Franklin; sister, Shirley Dean Ray and husband Bill of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Jennifer Anderson (Ryan) and Rodney Chastain (Lance); step granddaughter, Shannon Shuler (Eugene); four great grandchildren, Seth Shuler, Brittany Shuler, Clara Anderson and Sophia Anderson and several nieces and nephews. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 pm, Sunday, July 26th at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Judson Hall and Rev. Charles Stevens will officiate. For the protection of all, masks and social distancing will be required. With these measures in place, everyone is welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Faye Bishop, 73 3rd Street, Franklin, NC 28734 or Hospice House Foundation of WNC, P.O. Box 815, Franklin, NC 28744 Macon Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
