Evelyn Pangle

Evelyn Pangle, 94, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019. Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Norton and Ethel Henry Norton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Harry Pangle; brothers, Lewis Norton and Jack Norton; and a sister, Iva Dell Hall. Evelyn was a teacher and speech therapist; director of Exceptional Children’s Program; and retired from the Macon County Board of Education as Director of Curriculum and Instruction. She was a member of the Retired School Personnel; served on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity; and was past president and treasurer of the Alpha Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Evelyn was an active member of First United Methodist Church; was an avid gardener and lawn mower; and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her sons, Frank Pangle (Sherry) and Tommy Pangle (Brenda) both of Franklin; sisters, Betty Thomas of Otto and Ruth Phillips of Asheville; four grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held at 3 pm Saturday, March 16, at the First United Methodist Church. Rev. David Beam and Rev. Margaret Freeman will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 pm Saturday, prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Chris Burns, Daniel Niehoff, Tracy Holland, David Hodgins, Alan Pannell, David Cheek and Donald Hurst. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenneth Pannell and Ted Burnette. Memorial donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church, 66 Harrison Avenue, Franklin, NC 28734. Macon Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
